Candidasa is situated on the eastern shore of the holy island of Bali, Indonesia. The place was once used as a fishing village but is now a well-developed holiday spot. The most appropriate time for visiting the village (weather-wise) is from July to September, when the days are warm, sunny and without any showers. As compared to other main resorts in Bali, Candidasa is much smaller, more calm and secluded, so there are not so many exquisite hotels. The beaches have been seriously eroded and undermined, but the village is still a suitable place for diving and snorkeling. In addition, it is the excellent starting point for taking an exploration tour to the attractions of eastern side of Bali.
Candidasa offers plenty of accommodation options – from good bargains and budget deals to full-amenities hotels and breathtaking sea views. Perhaps the most luxurious and dazzling hotel in the area is Hotel Amankila, peacefully lying on a cliff looking over the Lombok Strait. The residence invites guests to fashionably furnished rooms especially elevated so that the picturesque sea and hillside views can be observed. The elegant vacation place also offers a sauna, an outdoor pool, spa and massage treatments, as well as sailing and snorkeling tours. Another swanky resort in Candidasa is Hotel Rama Candidasa and Resort featuring modernly designed rooms, a fine restaurant, a cozy bar, conference and meetings halls and a pool. The stunning site organizes diving tours, white water rafting, and mountain cycling trips.
The beach resort has a great number of cheap beach cottages and small budget hotels. One of the most affordable hotels in Candidasa is Dewa Bharata Bungalows Candi Dasa, located on the tranquil Candi Dasa Beach, in the middle of tropical gardens. The bungalows offer utmost relaxation amidst the astonishing gardens, by the outside pool and in the "Segara Restaurant" serving international dishes. Another relatively inexpensive accommodation is Hotel Kubu Indah Dive and Spa Resort. The brand new hotel complex in Candidasa is built with a traditional Balinese design and offers all types of international amenities. Puri Bagus Manggis is another excellent budget place to spend a holiday in Bali. It is a restful tourist site located in an impressive natural environment, with rooms overlooking vast traditional rice fields scenery.
The village of Candidasa is in the vicinity of Tenganan – the oldest village in Bali homing "Bali Aga" people – the first inhabitants on the island. As consequence, Candidasa is the perfect holiday destination for getting closer to the first settlers on the island and their customs preserved for centuries on end. Once arrived in area, tourists without own transportation can use the red bemos traveling quite often, can rent a motorbike or arrange for a driver to take them around the place. The village is not abundant in holiday attractions or luxurious hotels, but the few sights in the area are definitely worth viewing – the main temple Pura Candi Dasa given the name of the village, the bat cave of Goa Lawah and Sengkidu Village only two kilometers west of the resort town are some of the fascinating landmarks that make Candidasa a preferred vacation destination in Bali.
